African Witchfinder

Toby Trueman
Mally Graveson
United Kingdom, 2018, 30 min.

In English / Africaans with English subtitles.

A Namibian pastor faces a deadly mix of ancient culture, fear, and superstition as he embarks on a campaign for the freedom of the mentally ill, preventing innocent people from being drugged, chained and murdered.

Director's Statement

Witchcraft in sub saharan Africa is gaining more attention in recent years. Stories of children abandoned, tortured and killed for being witches and demons have made headlines and even scripted feature films. Yet witchcraft also targets the older generation, indeed it is this group that faces the most persecution. There is much work to be done in these quiet corners of the developing world, and this film goes some way to spreading awareness of one situation that affects peoples lives, sometimes even by taking them.
