Director's Statement

The story of To Heaven, To Gather discusses people's faith and actions when losing hope. What is more interesting about the film is the experimental spirit of bringing about the most realistic performances. For the process of being socialized to a particular culture, we tend to put on the masks that the society expects us to. Therefore, even the people in the documentary will "˜act' differently due to the awareness of the camera. Who could achieve the most realistic performances probably? Thus, I made a two-and-half-year-old child star in the film. For she is still pure, with little deception but whole human emotions. While the audiences feel the truth the protagonist carries out, they also create the world of the film together with other actors.

Category: Drama, Award Winner.
Themes: Culture, World Cinema, Youth.
