Red (aka Rudy)

Karina Węgiełek
Poland, 2019, 30 min.

In Polish with English subtitles.

The movie Red is about the scraps of life of Judyta and her father Zbigniew, shown across several days following the death of Judyta's brother, Marcin, killed in a car accident. As they try to come to terms with the void left by a loss of a loved one, all their mutual resentment and finger pointing is unexpectedly interrupted by a stranger: Red. Will he accept all the blame? And will it be enough? Will Judyta and Red be drawn closer together? Can anything new grow upon the sense of guilt? And what hides behind Zbigniew's loneliness and heavy drinking? And who - really - deserves the noose the most?

Director's Statement

It seems to me that the issue of feeling guilty wasn't often discussed in the cinema in a way accessible to everyone. At least I've never watched that kind of movie. However, I think that this is an important issue, because everybody once felt guilty in their lives. Many times in my life I came across people who were unable to get out of the burden of their own (often exaggerated) feelings of remorse. As if they were punishing themselves. However, it lasted forever. It didn't allow them to live normally. Vicious circle. This isn't the way.
